His experience ensures the muccessful carrying out of
the technical part of the work and the commercial or clerical part is carried out at the office. The store and the office
must work in conjunction. Much progress in the way of in-
provements has already been made and more will continue to
be made in the future on the foregoing lines,
he following is a list of improvements which have been
introduced since the arrival of the Inspector of Stores ;-
(A). A new stock book has been introduced. All items have
been given a number on the stock book and these numbers
will shortly be placed on the bins, as. in store, the
result of which should reduce the "orossing* of stock
book entries to a minimum.
(B). When the foregoing arrangement is quite complete and
in working order, stooktaking of any or all items should
be a comparatively simple matter.
(C). All issue notes for material to be purchased are now
carefully inquired into, with the result that old and
apparently useless materials are froquently used instead
of new materials being purchased. Kateriale returned to
Store are all examined by the Inspector and the prices
at which they are placed on charge by Executive Engineers
are adjusted, if necessary, having regard to the state
of the materiala and the likelihood of their being
again used and when.
(D). Materiale received from Contractors are examined and,
when the quality is not of the best, are returned, and
the Government are now receiving best quality as speci-
fied in the Contract. This applies only to materials
which can be judged from experience, such as Cotton
Waste, Bamboo Brooms, Buckets, &0.
(E). Materials charged to store on R/Notes, but not actually
returned, being used on other work and covered by I/Notes, are now specially dealt with to prevent confu-
Bion.
